PEOPLE MOVEMENT

Traffic patterns and congestion are indicators of the efficiency of a region’s transportation infrastructure, a function of job location versus workforce location and rapid population growth. Traffic congestion slows down the delivery of goods and services, making it more expensive to do business - and ultimately translates into a higher cost of living. It also consumes non-renewable resources, places stress on infrastructure maintenance and impacts air and water quality, quality of life and contributes to social stress. The solution - create job centers within new residential areas with adequate access, significantly increase infrastructure investment and incorporate toll roads and goods-movement corridors that will receive priority funding

GOODS MOVEMENT

Due to the East Bay’s role as a hub for goods movement in the Bay Area, as well as Northern California, transportation issues in the East Bay are of critical importance to the entire Bay Area. The Port of Oakland, which includes both the Oakland Seaport and the Oakland International Airport, is the fourth largest container port in the nation. Today, the Oakland Seaport loads and discharges more than 99% of Northern California’s containerized goods, and since 2001, Oakland International Airport has led the Bay Area in terms of airport freight. Oakland also now carries more passengers than San Jose and Sacramento, and has increased passenger traffic, while San Francisco has experienced an overall decline of over 6 million.
