About the East Bay EDA

History & Mission statement

The East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) is a public/private partnership serving the San Francisco East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties) whose mission is to establish the East Bay as a world-recognized location to grow businesses, attract capital and create quality jobs.

The organization was founded in 1990 by Alameda County, its 14 cities and special districts, as the Economic Development Advisory Board. The organization’s name was changed in 1996 to the Economic Development Alliance for Business (EDAB) as Contra Costa County Cities and County asked to join the organization and in June 2006, the name was changed to the East Bay Economic Development Alliance, to better reflect the bi-county mission of the organization.

Website Activity Reports

The new eastbayeda.org url was registered in 2007 and did not have the benefit of the initial website, edab.org (see table in info below) which had over 11 years of exposure to search engines and users on the internet.  The new eastbayeda.org website navigation design was able to reduce the number of clicks required to get to the desired page/info so the number of pageviews and hits were expected to be significantly less.  And that has been proven true - sessions per day have risen dramatically, pageviews moderately so, while the total hits (clicks) per session have gone down.

A BBS was created for EDAB in 1991 to share files and EDAB's first website was place on the internet in 1996 and was operated with a number of revisions until the name change in 2006, when the name change/service expansion was incorporated into a completely redesigned website, eastbayeda.org, that was launched in July 2007.  EDAB.org closed in October 2007.

Perhaps even more important than visitors is the average length per visit, which went from about 2.5 minutes to 18 minutes with the new website (due in part to the monthly economic newsletters and forecasts that have been incorporated into the new website), and the average number of page views per visit doubled on the new website as well.
